Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Law in Alaska
Driving under the influence of alcohol
is considered a very serious crime in many
states in the US. In order to curb the rise
in the number of DUI cases
and fatal accidents due to drunken driving,
many states have imposed strict rules and
regulations. One of the states where driving
under the influence of alcohol is viewed
strictly is the state of Alaska. They adopt
a number of Field
Sobriety Test (FST) in order ascertain
the level of alcohol content in the body
of the accused.
Penalties for DUI in Alaska
Under the new driving laws of Alaska,
where a person arrested under a DUI
offence is subject to revocation of
license for a temporary period or for an
extended period of time depending on the
frequency of offence. The offenders are
also required to attend mandatory alcohol
education program and assessment
or treatment of alcohol program.
This is in lieu of imprisonment or fine.
New Driving Law in Alaska
The driving laws of Alaska
has been changed and a law been passed with
effect from the first of this year where
motorist convicted under DUI
offence are required to install the ignition
interlock device for them to continue driving.
The driver is required to breathe into the
device, any amount of alcohol content
above the pre set level which is usually
.03%, the device will automatically disable
ignition of the vehicle. There are five
other states which prescribe this penalty
even for first time offenders.
